Thursday, rain and rain ...

Will it ever stop. It's July ! come on ! But with my excellent rain gear I'm almost impervious (I had to look up that word first, I wasn't 100% sure about the spelling/meaning, but I was pleasantly surprised ;-) ) to rain and other weather elements.

Yesterday I visited Maarten Steinbuch at the Technical University in Eindhoven (TUe). I had to take a train earlier (good I checked the NS (National Railways) site) and took a detour through Utrecht. A power line malfunction between Breda and Tilburg messed things up. Luckily I had enough time to grab a Whopper Cheese at the Burger King. My first since I'm travelling by train ... Which is remarkable since Eindhoven now has a Burger King at the train station too ;-)

I really enjoyed talking with Maarten. His enthusiasm is contagious. He gave me the grand tour of all the labs and I was really impressed. I didn't know Maarten was active in automotive: hybrid trucks (DAF/Paccar), CVT (Bosch/Van Doorne Transmissie) etc. Also his medical projects (less invasive surgery, robot assisted etc) were impressive. But I didn't come for the tour of course. We discussed the new venture, his expectations and his involvement and of other parties. I think the combination of Maarten en Leo is quite an optimal mix. Friday I'll visit together with Leo the partner/customer. Very interesting !

I also got a copy of the thesis (proefschrift) of Pieter Nuij ! wonderful news ! title: "Higher Order Sinusoidal Input Describing Functions", subtitle: "Extending linear techniques towards non-linear systems analysis". On the 29th of August he will defend his work in front of the committee. I'll try to read his thesis. Interesting stuff.

When I came home yesterday I found out we have a new computer user in the house ! Amazing ! within 2 days she suddenly got the hang of the mouse. She can point and click and even drag icons or pictures. The BBC has a terrific children site: CBeeBies with an enormous collection of songs, games, stories etc. Hannah was having good fun with Mr. Tumble, singing along with Incy Wincy Spider, dragging and dropping animals in the farmyard. I'm as proud as a peacock.

I'm very tired, had another short night. Luckily I don't have to get up early tomorrow. Leo will pick me up from home, no stress.
